Watercolour Workshops at Nelson Lakes with Jan Thomson, Korimako Studio
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Jan runs regular watercolour workshops from her purpose built studio at St Arnaud, suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. You'll work together in a small group (maximum 6 people) covering basic techniques. Her aim is to teach watercolour painting in a relaxed setting - please check out the studio website for photos of past workshops.
Cost for the two-day workshop (10am - 4pm) is $150, plus materials (list available at Impressions).
The next workshop will be early in 2014, (probably February). She usually holds these groups over a weekend, but is am happy to run them at other times for a minimum of three people. She's also happy to take plein air watercolour for interested groups.

Enjoy creating art? Would like to give art a try or simply need some guidance with drawing, painting techniques, colour mixing, composition, perspective or inspiration?The answer is Creative Art Sessions which are tailored to individual needs.
You will work in your chosen medium on your individual project under Catherine's guidance. The two hour sessions will be packed full of fun, knowledge and inspiration!
The session numbers are kept small so attention can be given to each individual - booking is essential.

Don't want to join a class full of strangers? Feel intimidated by the thought of creating in public? But want to learn new techniques or try new media, improve what you already practise or just want to try creating, drawing or painting?
Well Catherine has another option for you! Work one-to-one under the guidance of Catherine, with her 5 years teaching experience and a lifetime as an artist. Learn in a friendly, creative and relaxed environment. Lessons are usually between 1-2 hours depending on your requirements.

Figure Drawing Classes with Ronette Pickering
These classes will help you to develop your drawing skills using the human figure as the subject. They cater for both experienced students and those who have not done much drawing at all. You will be encouraged to:
- develop your drawing skills using a range of media and tools to describe the human form;
- refine your observational skills
- find your personal expression
Classes run throughout the year. In terms one, two and four the classes run for nine weeks and in term three for ten weeks.
Fees: The fee for term one is $210 which covers the cost of paper, payment for the model, some additional materials when required and tea and coffee. Easels are drawing boards are also provided. You will need to bring your own drawing materials. You will receive a list of recommended materials when you enroll.
Term One Start and Finish Dates:
- Evening Class: Thursday 13 February - Thursday 10 April, 5.30 - 8pm
- Daytime Class: Friday 14 February - Friday 11 April, 10am - 12.30pm

Regular classes will continue in 2014: -
- Monday evenings 7-9.30pm. Recreational Painting , all mediums. Innovative, interesting time spent with folk who usually work during the day and really want to create works that make them feel good.
- Wednesday mornings, 9am - 12pm. Recreational painting, all levels. From an introduction to painting and drawing to more experienced painter's tuition in all subjects. This is a very satisfying class with the ability to grow skills in a happy environment.
- Thursday mornings, 9am - 12pm. Recreational painting, all levels. This class is the same as the Wednesday class and this arrangement allows for folk who miss one of their classes to attend on another day to catch up.
Please phone or email for details.. I am open to requests for specific tutoring in all mediums although are taught at the beginner level. Innovative classes are incusive of all styles of mediums but the oil specific is intentional for those working in a conventional way. The maximum student per class is five.

Glazing Techniques Explored Within Your Art
In this class Larisse will introduce you to the practical application of 'glazing' i.e. using layers of translucent colour to achieve depth and luminosity within your art, to either enhance an existing artwork or to develop a new artwork from the initial concept through to the finished work. The first weeks will introduce various techniques and uses for glazing, whilst the remaining weeks will be used to either enhance depth and light within an existing work or to create a work from scratch using glazing as the main technnique, growing and developing your individual style and art. Both acrylic paints and fast drying oils will be used.

Mapua Painting Group
The Mapua Art Group meets every Thursday morning at the Mapua Hall to paint/draw and help each other in a fun and supportive environment, (please note this is not a teaching class).
Beginners through to professional are all encouraged to come along. Participants include oil, acrylic, watercolour and pastel artists ranging from figurative to landscape to still life.
Every Thursday morning 9am - 12.30pm, the Supper Room, Mapua Hall. $4 a session includes morning tea. Tables and chairs are provided and artists will need to bring their own materials and an easel if they wish to use one.
The last Thursday of each month, guest tutors run a workshop.

Youth Private Painting Classes
Art Classes with Larisse Hall, Artist
SUITABLE FOR 11 - 16YEAR OLDS
Thursdays 3.45pm - 4.45pm from Larisse's art studio in Annesbrook.
Art classes focus on the development of individual style using various techniques, ranging from drawing studies through to sculpture work, encouraging creative thinking, in a relaxed and fun environment. With hands on demonstrations and examples, individuals develop skills such as composition, tone, form, scale, perspective and use of colour. My aim is to enable ones creative ability and to foster individual creative confidence with it!
$10 per session, with all materials supplied and an old T-shirt to protect clothing provided at each lesson.

9-11 years old Children's Art Class with Catherine Kent
A fun and creative approach to learning art for children 9-11 years. All media is covered and your child will learn various techniques in drawing, painting, printing and collage.
